Sgt. 1st. class (Ret) Anthony Humphrey would like to thank Anthony Humphrey also known as “Red” to his loved ones was born on November 27th 1957 in Goldsboro, NC to Daniel F. Humphrey and Mary E. Harvey Humphrey.

Although Anthony was born in Goldsboro North Carolina, while he was a child, he moved to Johnston County where he received his formal education in the Johnston County Public School system, graduating from North Johnston High School. After graduation, Anthony went on to join the United States Army and serve for 22 years, Retiring in 2002.

“Red” was a well-known family man who has had many accomplishments in his life, however one of his best accomplishments was being a father and grandfather. “Red” shared his life with his wife Gloria Jean Speights Humphrey and their two sons; Jarod Perrest Humphrey & Devone Devante Humphrey. Anthony worked hard for his family and the love he carried for his loved ones was unconditional. Following Anthony in death were: his mother, Mary Humphrey; his step father who raised him, Cassie Hinnant; his father, Daniel Humphrey; his sister, Brenda “Rose” Humphrey; and two brothers Demorris “Jim” Humphrey and Billy Wadworth.

Many fond and cherished memories are left to: his wife, Goria Humphrey; his two sons Jarod Humphrey and Devone Humphrey all of Hampton, VA; two granddaughters Nakiyah and Jamiyah Humphrey of Hampton, VA; One sister Bonnie Bennet (Scoop) of Kenly, NC; and two brothers, Donnie Humphrey (Carolyn) and Danny Humphrey (Kim) both of Kenly, NC; brothers-in-law, Dennis “peewee” Martin (Bessie) of Selma, NC and Rufus Motto of Kenly, NC; sisters-in-law, Linda “Balley” Watson (Salvin) of Selma, NC; Brenda “sweetie” Hampton (Joe) of Smithfield, NC; Carol “Sickie” Allen (Don) of Selma, NC; Thresia “sparky” Mendosa of Selma, NC; Beatrice “Ann” Burns of Smithfield, NC; along with eighteen nieces and nephews.

Words from his son:

“ I don’t know if my dad knew it or not but he was my hero. I always told people that I would never do some of the things he did but in reality I wanted to be just like him. When I was a kid, I thought he was strict but it showed how much he cared. He asked what I was doing or where I was going. When he didn’t make a game, he wanted to know everything I did in the game. I could go on and on but I hope I made him proud, because he made me proud to be his son.”
