Retired Army SFC Bloy L. Hemphill passed away on May 20, 2023 at the Georgia War Veteran’s Home in Milledgeville, GA at the age of 85, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.
Bloy is survived by his brother: Jimmy Ray Hemphill (Sue); children: Kevin Hemphill (Sonia)and Dr. Suzanne Hemphill-Dickson (Anthony); Sister-in-law: Linda Walker and a host of adopted children; Tonya Walker-Tandy (Donnie), Martina Jones (Marvin), Annette Gilliam, and Antoinette Gilliam; grandchildren Eric Dickson, Carmelita Dickson, Tomi Vega (Jasmine), Ami Vega, Brionna Bynum, Kirk Robinson, KyeonnaRobinson; great-grandchildren: Jaylin Bynum, Zayden Gibson, King Robinson, Ra’Niyah Robinson, Gabriel Vega, Brielle Epps and a host of nieces and nephews . He is predeceased by hisparents and wife, Myrtle Ann Hemphill (Nellie Pearl).
Bloy was born in McGregor, TX on March 7, 1938, to Willie Hemphill and Alberta Ewings. He graduated from Paul Quinn University in 1961 with a degree in Physical Education and joined in the United States Army as a Medical Corpsman from 1961 to 1985. He was a highly decorated war veteran, serving multiple tours in Korea and Vietnam and receiving numerous medals, ribbons, and commendations. He also retired from the State of Virginia.
Bloy was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed working indoors and outdoors, singing, dancing, and fellowshipping with family and friends. He will be missed by his family, friends, all who knew him.
