SFC. Ervan Harvey Sr.,

SFC. Ervan Harvey Sr., husband of Mrs. Earlene Harvey  transitioned Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Hampton Veterans Administration Medical Center in Hampton, VA.

Mr. Harvey was born to the late Slater B. Matthews Sr. and Lottie D. Harvey in Pamlico County, N.C., on March 26, 1942.He graduated in 1960 from Pamlico Training School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960-1965.He later served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1972. He also served as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve until his retirement in 2002.

Ervan worked as a District Manger at High's Janitorial Services in Hampton before becoming an Executive Housekeeper at Hampton University from 1988-2010 when he retired. He was a member of the American Legion Post #67 for many years.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Dea Patrick and a son, Gregory Darnelle Miller.

He leaves to cherish his  memory his devoted wife, Earlene M. Harvey; five children, Stephina Henderson (Keith) of New Bern N.C., Ervan Harvey Jr. of Columbia, S.C., Pamela D. Cox of Columbia, S.C., Nikki Hill of Columbia, S.C., and Ashley Hill of Columbia, S.C; four sisters, Patricia Ann Matthews-Juarez (Paul D.) of Nashville, TN; Lottie D. Hickman (Alton G. Sr.) of New Bern, N.C., Linda Matthews King (John D. Sr.) of Williamsburg, VA; Connie Matthews Harshaw (James M. ) of Williamsburg, VA; four brothers Glyn Matthews (Ethel) of Dover, DE; Slater B. Matthews Jr. (Gloria) of Hampton, VA; Mark J. Matthews ( Pamela P.) of Gaithersburg, MD., and Morris E. Matthews (Amy) of Hampton, VA; 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and other family members.

Services for SFC. Harvey will be held at 10:00a.m. on Friday, September 7, 2018  at Miracle Temple Baptist Church, 617 32nd Street, Newport News, VA. by Pastor Anthony Cooper.

Interment with Military honors will follow at Albert G. Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Suffolk, VA. 

Viewing for SFC. Harvey will commence Thursday, September 6, 2018 from noon until 6:00p.m. at C.C.Carter Funeral Home, Inc. 

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that cards and memorial contributions be sent to the home at 711 Norwood Circle, Hampton, VA. 23661.
