Reverend Edward Macklin II Obituary

Reverend Edward Howard Macklin II entered eternal rest on March 30, 2021 in Hampton, Virginia. Edward was born to the union of the late Edward Macklin Sr. and Sally Beatrice Oakley Macklin.

Edward participated in various church activities at an early age. Edward loved God. As an adult, he was a reverend and served others as a chaplain and associate pastor. Edward attended Calvary Outreach Ministries, Smithfield, VA, Edward served at Family Light Baptist Church, Newport News VA, and Macedonia Baptist Church, Newport News, VA. Edward was educated in Newport News Public Schools. He graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1962. While in high school he played football, basketball, and was the best dresser. Edward also received a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. Edward was a 32nd degree mason.  Edward was a former employee of Newport News Shipbuilding, Pittsburgh Steel Mills, Pittsburgh Juvenile Detention Center, Newport News Public Schools, and Hampton University.

During the time Edward stayed at Jeraldine and Donnell's home, Dad prayed all the time. He was thankful and grateful. Dad always asked God for forgiveness because he said, " I am a man and I am not perfect." Dad also talked about his journey in his illness. It was something he never experienced before. He did not know his health would decline so fast. I think of Dad's journey with this scripture Deuteronomy 2:7. The Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness...

Edward loved his mother Sally B. Gray dearly and appreciated her giving him life into this world. During his illness he called his mom many times to tell her, " he loved her." Edward also called his siblings to check on them and share love with them too. Dad also shared his love for us Jeraldine, Donnell, Jaray, and Wayne. We loved him too. Dad loved his desserts and he enjoyed a good bean pie, apple pie, and sweet potato pie topped with ice cream. When I was growing up. Dad talked about Grandma Bea's chocolate banana cakes. I remember at one Macklin Family Reunion, Grandma Bea's made the famous chocolate cake. It was sliced up so fast and in five minutes was eaten up.  Edward also loved football and golf.  The Seattle Seahawks was his team.

Edward had one child to precede him in death, his daughter Kayla Cleveland. Edward is survived by his children Wayne Harley, Jeraldine Macklin- Davis (Donnell), and Jaray Macklin (Nicole), his mother Sally B. Macklin-Gray, his siblings Delton Macklin Sr.(Theresa), Paul Macklin (Maggie), Loretta Gaskins (Tony), Aletha Forbes, Phil Macklin (Claudia), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 1 great great grand child and friends.
