Reverend Bertha Lee Kornegay, 77, of Suffolk VA, was called home to eternal rest with the Lord on Wednesday, March 4, 2020. She was the daughter of the late Lonnie T. Artis and the late Thelma (Artis) Hopson.
She was predeceased by her late husband, Joseph L. Kornegay, USAF SSgt Ret. Two sons, Sterling O. Dickson, Anthony Roy Craig, one Great-Grandson, Kai-Shad Adkinson-El, one sister Rebbie Artis and one nephew Lynel Hopson of Newport News, Virginia.
Reverend Kornegay, is the Founder of Love Care Crisis Ministries Inc. serving the Tidewater and Richmond areas. Along with the Love Care Crisis Ministries Inc. executive and volunteer board, she ministered to the holistic needs of people from all walks of life regardless to their economic or spiritual status.
Bertha was educated in both the Nansemond County and Disputanta, Virginia school systems; where she graduated from J. E. J. Moore High School. She was a 1971 graduate from the Peninsula Business College in Newport News, Virginia and 2001 graduate of Tidewater Community College. She received her Ministers License in 1985 under the Michael Patterson Evangelistic Association Inc. She served on the H.E.L.P. Organization Executive Board of Hampton Roads. She was a dedicated and well-known traffic and school crossing guard for Hampton Police Department.
Reverend Bertha Kornegay, leaves as a testament to her Legacy of Love and Hope; eight Children, two sons, Elder Jerome L. Craig (Anita) of Temple Hills, MD, Joseph Kornegay Jr., (Toni) of Mt. Olive, NC, six daughters, Pastor Bethaline E. Craig-Miles of Henrico, VA, Evangelist Kathalyn L. McElrath of Newport News, VA, Elder Rosalyn C. Craig of Richmond, VA, Missionary Joselyn B. Kornegay-Hendrick of Suffolk, VA, Leslie Kornegay of Durham, NC, and Fonda Kornegay (Phillip) of Wake Forest, NC. Eleven Grandchildren, eleven Great Grandchildren, three brothers, five sisters, two aunts and a great host of cousins, extended family and friends.
A wake service for Reverend Kornegay will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2020 at New Hope Baptist Church.
Services for Reverend Kornegay will be held promptly at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2020 at New Hope Baptist Church, 1415 Big Bethel Road Hampton, Virginia.
Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
