Rev. Ernest Bradley Moore, Jr.

Reverend Ernest Bradley Moore, Jr., lovingly known by most as "Butch", was born May 18, 1948, in Ahoskie, North Carolina. He left this earthly life peacefully on his sofa, May 6, 2026, in Johnson City, Tennessee. 

He attended school in Ahoskie, NC, and graduated from Shaw University in Raleigh, NC. He received his higher studies at Andover-Newton Theological School in Newton Centre, MA. Butch worked for many years as a chaplain in various prison institutions across multiple states. Later, Butch moved to Johnson City, TN, where he worked as a director and counselor for an adult group home managed by the state of Tennessee. While living in Tennessee, Butch was affectionately known by many as "Chap."  

Butch was known for his love of the "underprivileged and underserved," and he loved working with this population. Butch retired in 2024 at the age of 76. He greatly enjoyed watching college sports, fishing, and spreading the word of God. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Elretta Moore; his brothers, General "Frog" Moore, Donnie Moore, Thomas Moore, Otis Moore, and Linwood Moore. 

He is survived by three sisters, Anne Dukes of Hayward, CA; Frances Rankins of Ahoskie, NC, and Leanora White of Chesapeake, VA. Butch was the loving uncle of seventeen nieces and nephews and a river full of great and great-great nieces and nephews. With a host of cousins, friends, and associates. 

It is the Moore family's desire that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

The family of Mr. Donnie Moore has entrusted his final care to C. C. Carter Funeral Home.
