Rev. Dr. Solomon Wooden Jr.

November 23, 1944 ~ September 9, 2025 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Rev. Dr. Solomon Wooden Jr. Obituary

Rev. Dr. Solomon Wooden, Jr., the son of the late Ruth Walker and Solomon Wooden, Sr., begin his life’s journey on November 23, 1944 in Newport News, Virginia.  He transitioned from his earthly journey to his heavenly home on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at his granddaughter’s home in Hampton, Virginia.  Rev. Wooden was preceded in death by his loving wife, Princetta Hughes Wooden; daughter, Lessie Redmon; sister, Novella Wooden and his two brothers, Bernard Wooden and Freddie Walker.  

He was a graduate of the Newport News Public School System and a graduate of the United Christian College, located in Portsmouth, Virginia, where he earned his Bachelor of Theology and his Doctrine of Divinity Degree.  He had several affiliations with a variety of ministerial associations and community affairs within the Tidewater area.   

Rev. Wooden had great work ethics.  He was a dedicated employee at General Electric Supply Company, where he retired from on March 1, 2002 after 34 years of service.  He had many talents to include upholstery, and assembling computers, which he had more time for after retirement. However, Rev. Wooden was known throughout the city as a professional Jazz and Rock saxophone player.  Rev. Wooden, who was called by God, was blessed with a very unique talent.  After being saved by the Grace and Mercy of God, he began using his saxophone talent for the Lord.  

Rev. Wooden received his call from GOD to preach the Gospel on       April 23, 1976 and was licensed on May 23,1976.  He was ordained by his home church, First Baptist Church Morrison, on November 17, 1977 by the late Rev. Dr. Marcellus Harris, Sr.  Rev. Wooden was installed as Pastor of Goodwill Baptist Church, located at 306 Catalpa Avenue, Hampton, Virginia on July 22, 

1984, where he faithfully served as Pastor for 41years.  Throughout the years, Rev. Wooden taught, guided and mentored several ministers under his leadership.  Pastor loved preaching and teaching the word of GOD.  He loved his church family and loved fellowshipping with Goodwill’s sister churches. 

Rev. Wooden leaves to cherish his beautiful memories his son, Solomon Lorenzo Wooden; two granddaughters, Alexis Redmon, who was his loving and devoted caregiver, and Taylor Princetta Ann Richardson; two great-grandsons, Messiah and Anthony; three sisters, Barbara (Richard) Crowell, Marie Williams and Lottie Truitt; one brother-in-law, Robert Wooten; one sister-in-law, Janie Wooden; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his church family.
