Rev. Beverly Jones

The Reverend Beverly Ann Jones (née Lowe), affectionately known as "Reverend Bev," "Bev," "Aunt Bev," "Cousin Bev,"and "Pidge," entered eternal rest on May 19, 2026, in Hampton, Virginia, at the age of 84.

Born on January 20, 1942, in Lakewood, New Jersey, Reverend Jones lived a life defined by faith, service, perseverance, and love for family. She was the daughter of the late Charles W. Lowe and Pearl V. Lowe (née Douglas).

One of Reverend Jones's greatest callings was motherhood. As a young mother, she devoted herself to raising her two sons, Kenneth R. Jones, Sr. and Jeffrey W. Jones, often overcoming challenges that would have discouraged others. Through hard work, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment, she built a legacy of strength and resilience that continues through future generations.

A graduate of Lakewood High School, Reverend Jones continued her education at Ocean County College and Georgian Court College, earning an Associate Degree. Throughout her life, she was passionate about helping others. She served for many years as a counselor at the Arthur Brisbane Child Treatment Center and also worked at the YMCA of Lakewood, New Jersey, where she positively influenced countless young people and families.

Whether through her professional career, her ministry, or her personal relationships, Reverend Jones was known for helping people. She would offer a helping hand when needed and was equally willing to speak an honest word when encouragement required truth.

Faith was at the center of Reverend Jones's life. Raised at St. John's AME Zion Church in Lakewood, New Jersey, she faithfully served in numerous ministries, including the music ministry where she played piano. Answering God's call to ministry, she became an ordained minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church and faithfully served as an itinerant pastor. Her ministry was marked by compassion, honesty, and a genuine desire to help people grow in faith and overcome life's challenges.

The faith she proclaimed from the pulpit was the same faith she lived at home, modeling perseverance, compassion, and service for her family and all who knew her.

In her later years, Reverend Jones became part of the church family at World Victory Church & Life Center in Newport News, Virginia, where she enjoyed worship and fellowship and participated in the Mother's Day Ensemble. Her favorite hymn, "At the Cross," reflected the faith that sustained her throughout her life.

As Reverend Jones's health needs increased in her later years, she was blessed by a circle of family members, friends, caregivers, and church family whose love and support allowed her to continue living with dignity, comfort, and grace. Her family is deeply grateful for the many people who walked alongside her during this season of life and whose kindness became a living expression of God's love.

Reverend Jones was preceded in death by her parents, Charles W. Lowe and Pearl V. Lowe; and her sister, Charlotte W. Lowe Lindo.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Kenneth R. Jones, Sr. and Jeffrey W. Jones (Sheila); her grandchildren, DeShawn Jenkins and Kenneth R. Jones, Jr. (Jazmine); her great-granddaughters, Jaz'elle Jones and Jazaya Jones; her brothers, Melvin Lowe (Patricia) and Dion Lowe (Glenda); her sister, Crystal Lowe; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family, and friends.

The Reverend Beverly Ann Jones will be remembered for her faith, her willingness to help others, her straightforward honesty, her love for family, and her enduring commitment to serving God. Her life stands as a testimony that strength, faith, and perseverance can leave a lasting impact on generations to come.
