Retired Master Sgt. Rudolph Cherry Jr., Obituary

Master Sgt. Rudolph Cherry Jr. was born on December 3, 1964, in Plymouth, NC to the late Rudolph Cherry Sr. and Savannah Cherry. He transitioned to heaven on March 16, 2025, at 4:30 AM. Rudy loved Plymouth during his youth. He spent many summers and holidays there. He attended public schools all over the world due to his dad, Rudolph Cherry Sr., being in the military. Rudy graduated in 1983 from Eastern Wayne High School in Goldsboro, NC. He enlisted in the Air Force in March 1984.

Rudy enjoyed his military career. He served honorably in the Air Force, dedicating his life for 27 years. During his time in active duty, he received many decorations including the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal with four Oak Leaf clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with silver cluster, National Defense Medal with bronze star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, and Korean Defense Medal.

After retiring from the Air Force, he was employed at Woolpert as a System Administrator, a job he truly enjoyed. Rudy was well liked among his co-workers. Rudy you are truly loved, will be truly missed, and always remembered. During a tour of duty in Guam, he met Jeri, and she quickly became the love of his life.

Rudy and Jeri got married October 5th, 1990. Together they have four children: AJ Wallace, Jeremy Quebbeman, Candace Cherry, and Quincy Cherry. Rudy loved his family and loved looking forward to the holidays and gatherings to spend time with his family. Rudy loved sports, especially football “The Dallas Cowboys”. Rudy loved cooking for his family. Rudy was preceded in death by his father Rudolph Sr., Grandparents Charles and Estella Cherry, Great Grandparents Howard and Cora Vick, and one Aunt Maxine Pledger. Rudy leaves to cherish his memories; his wife Jeri L. Cherry, his children AJ and his wife Anneka of England UK, Jeremy of Hampton VA, Candace of Hampton VA and Quincy of Hampton VA. Grandchildren Harrison Wallace, Carter P. Cherry, and Louis Wallace. Mother Savannah Shoates and Stepdad Davie Shoates of Goldsboro NC, Sister Debbie Cherry of Goldsboro NC, Brother Charles Cherry of Goldsboro NC, Aunt Hennis Cherry and Aunt Loraine White of Plymouth NC, Cousin Ursula Cherry of Plymouth NC, Cousin Samantha White of Greenville NC, Sondra Simmons of Hampton VA, Special Nieces Ja’Irie Morgan and Ashley Cherry of Goldsboro NC, Special Great Nieces Joelle Boyd and Armani Cherry, Special Great Nephew Keshawn Jones-Davis and Little Mike Cherry. Also, in addition a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, five aunts and one uncle.
