Pastor Stanley Chapman Obituary

   Pastor Stanley Lee Chapman, affectionately known as Stan, passed away on October 29, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on August 29, 1954, in Raleigh, NC, to the late Pastor Lee D. Chapman and Hazel Dawson Chapman, Stan had a lifelong passion for nature, fishing, and the stars. Stan received his primary education in the Hampton Public School System and graduated from Bethel High School. He excelled as a skilled mechanic throughout his career, working with notable establishments such as Newport News Shipbuilding, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Sherwood Packaging/International Paper, and later retired from Planters/Kraft Foods in Suffolk, VA.

    Beyond his technical skills, Stan pursued his love for cooking, earning a Culinary Arts degree and becoming known as “Chef Stan.” He was the Founding Pastor of Word of Truth Ministries, Newport News, VA. Pastor Chapman loved studying, teaching, and discussing the word of God at area nursing facilities and hospitals, with the sick and shut-in, in weekly Bible studies, and with anyone he came into contact with.

 

   Pastor Stanley Chapman was preceded in death by his loving maternal grandparents, Joseph Stanley and Ethel Dawson; his paternal grandparents, Samuel and Lucy Chapman; a beloved sister, Camellia DeRose Chapman; and his Bonus Mom, Pastor Cynthia Chapman.

    He was a dedicated father to four sons, Timothy Chapman, of Newport News, VA; Joseph Chapman (Devon), of Hampton, VA; Marcell Chapman, of Philadelphia, PA; and Minister Sidney Lassiter, III, of Richmond, VA. Three Daughters, Karinda Parks (Rabiyah Al-Kaabah), of Philadelphia, PA, Ciara Brown, of Newport News, VA, Evangelist Belaun Sydell Lassiter (Jason) of Suffolk, VA, Ciara Brown, of Newport News, VA, three grandchildren, Jai-quan Chapman, Aniya Chapman, Jusiah Chapman, of Hampton, VA, three brothers, Kenneth V. Chapman, Elder Willie Brown (Maria), Michael Brown (LaRene), one Sister, Vickie Johnson of Ivor, VA, a special friend, Towana Mace, a devoted ex-wife and friend, Pastor Bethaline Craig-Miles, one aunt, Verna Chapman, and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends! His life was characterized by love, kindness, and a commitment to service, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
