Ms. Yvette M. Garrett, a woman whose unyielding faith, profound love for her family, and gentle spirit touched countless lives, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 5, 2025. She had recently celebrated her 60th birthday on May 9.
Born at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News, Virginia, Yvette was the beloved daughter of the late Doris Mae Garrett (née Palmer) and Floyce N. Garrett Sr. Yvette spent the majority of her life as a resident of Virginia, growing up in Newport News. Yvette was a proud graduate of Menchville High School, Class of 1984
Yvette’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a dedicated and faithful Christian. She received Jesus as her savior as a child and her commitment to Christ remained steadfast until her untimely passing. She was a member of Wesley Grove United Church of Christ in Newport News and New Hope Baptist Church where CC Carter is the pastor. For the past two years, alongside her big sisters, Ramona G. Beach and Debbie G. Cook, she found a spiritual home at New Life Outreach in Chesterfield, Virginia, led by Pastors Carlos and Rosalinda Rivera.
Yvette is survived by her sisters: Ramona G. Beach of Henrico, VA and Debbie G. Cook of Midlothian, VA; her brothers, Floyce N. Garrett, Jr. of Washington DC; Duane A. Garrett, Sr. of Snellville, GA; and the Reverend Wesley R. Garrett of Richmond, VA. She also leaves behind 15 nieces: Sheree, Jameeliah, Jessica, Kaylee, Nova, Bethany, Sherrie, MyLinda, Deja, Sherray, Makayla, Janaya, Satiah, Marly, and Layla; and 16 nephews: Daniel, Lee, Malcolm, Knight, Tron, Legend, David, Jamil, Charles, Duane Jr., Michael, Jamal, Duane III, Haden, Jahir, and Caine
It is the desire of the Garrett family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
