Ms. Virginia Stokes Obituary

On Friday, September 10, 2021, the angels were dispatched to come and get our beloved sister, aunt and friend to take her to her eternal home.

Virginia (Ginny) Stokes was the fourth child born on June 6, 1938 to Samuel Stokes, Sr. and Virgie Stokes in Lunenburg County, Virginia.  At a very young age Ginny, along with her parents and other siblings relocated  to Hampton, Virginia where she resided most of her life.  Ginny attended Aberdeen Elementary School, Y. H. Thomas Middle School, graduating from George P. Phenix High School in the class of 1961.  After graduating from Phenix High School she enrolled in the Madam Daniels School of Hair Design.

Upon graduating from the School of Hair Design, she decided to relocate to Newark, NJ where other family were located.  She lived and worked there for approximately 12 years before returning to Hampton.  She then became employed with Colonial Super Market for a number of years before retiring and enjoying many years of retirement.  Anyone familiar with Ginny knew she was a no-nonsense person and never wavered in decisions she would make.  She loved being around people and spending quality time with family and friends.  She was also a no-nonsense type of person that spoke her mind and would always give her opinion without wavering.  Her warmth, love and laughter filled our hearts with joy of which we will truly miss.

Virginia was predeceased by both parents, two brothers, Samuel Stokes, Jr. and John E. Stokes, Sr., and one sister Iva Juanita Stokes.  Ginny will forever be missed by her surviving siblings:  Mary Stokes, Annie Chandler, Agnes Chisman (Lafayette/Bubba), Gertrude Jones (John), Cleveland Leon Stokes (Barbara), Jewel Silver (Michael), Ruth Lewis (Glenn) and Tony Stokes; and adopted sister,Denise Harris, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
