Ms. Vermelle Dorothy Graham aka Mommo was born April 22,1941. She was the youngest of seven children born to Louise and Elmer Holt. Born and raised in Harlem, NY Vermelle enjoyed spending time with her siblings and playing basketball.
She participated in tournaments with her school’s basketball team and won several trophies. Upon graduating from high school Vermelle gave birth to her
daughter Vernessa. Shortly thereafter, she began working at a publishing firm in Manhattan. She married Isaiah Graham on June 17,1992. A few years later, they opened I and Fashions clothing store in the Highbridge area of the Bronx. Isaiah and Vermelle ran the store until they decided to move to Hampton Virginia.
Over the course of their marriage, they enjoyed traveling to Jamaica and yearly trips to the Bahamas. Vermelle enjoyed life to the fullest. You would always find her with her scotch (Johnny Walker Black) and water.
She is preceded in death by her husband Isaiah; her sisters Alice, Jean, and Dora; brothers Junior and Schuyler; nieces Sandy and Cheryl; nephews Leroy, Tony, Albert, and Tyrone; sister-in-law Olga; brother-in-law Johnny; and her dear friend Cookie.
She is survived by her beautiful daughter Vernessa; grandchildren Kimberly, Marquis, Ciara,and Rashid; great grandchildren Brianna, Cameron, Marcus, Kehlani, Marley, Kamiyah, and Kyleigh; great-grandchildren Amir and Amari; brother Ronald; nieces Shernice and Renee; and a host of great nieces, great nephews, and friends.
Mommo was blessed as she would often say. Her positive and loving spirt will truly be missed.
It is the desire of the Graham family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
