Ms. Tulie Oliver

Ms. Tulie Oliver was called home to take her eternal rest on Thursday, March 25, 2021. Tulie was born to the late Richard and Licil Ann Garner on February 4, 1935 in Northampton, North Carolina. She was educated in the Northampton County School System in Seaboard, N.C.  She was employed and retired from Hampton University.

Tulie loved the Lord and started her christian journey at a young age.  She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church East End in Newport News, VA.  She later became a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church where she was active and involved in ministry.  She was a member of the M. R. Williams Missionary Ministry and a Deaconess.  She believed in studying the Word of God and attending Sunday School and Bible Study on a regular basis.  Her commitment to the church and its ministries were priority in her life.  She was a great encourager to all she came in contact with.  She loved her family and shared the goodness of God and the importance of having Him in their lives.  Her favorite saying was “Hold on to God’s Unchanging Hand.”

She was preceded in by her mother and father; sister, Rocka Lee Garner; brothers, McKinley Garner, Clint Garner, and Dunk Garner.

Tulie leaves to cherish fond memories; her son, John Earl Gatling, Jr.; grandchildren, John Gatling III, Felecia L. Gatling, Melissa Goodwin (Terry); 13 great-grandchildren, and 7 great great-grandchildren; a host of cousins and other relatives.

Viewing for Ms. Oliver will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc.

Services for Ms. Oliver are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Gethsemane Baptist Church, 5405 Roanoke Avenue, Newport News, Virginia 23605 with Rev. Dr. Dwight Riddick presiding.
