How do we say goodbye to what we had? The good times that made us laugh, outweigh the bad. I thought we'd get to see forever but forever is gone away. It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.
The book of Job declared, "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord."
On Friday morning, May 16th, Sonia received a call surrounded by her devoted loving family. It was a call with an offer she couldn't refuse, for an appointment from which she could not return. This offer came with a huge sign on bonus. Sonia gained her angelic wings after a courageous battle with cancer. She received full healing on the other side. Sonia departed her life for a reunion with family and friends which she had not seen in a long time.
Sonia was born to Alfred Junius Cooper and Margaret Taybron on October 24, 1959. She attended Virginia Public Schools.
Sonia's life was a testament to her dedication to family. She would always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a pillar of strength, a source of comfort and a constant presence in their lives. Beyond her role as a companion and a mother she was a passionate decorator. She was a small framed woman but no job was too big for Sonia and she didn't mind getting dirty. She would lay flooring, paint and even cut grass with Ernest. In her spare time, she loved to collect things like coins and stamps that she would often talk about. She was an artist and passed that trait down to her babygirl Hattie. She was happiest riding alongside her lifetime partner, Ernest to shop for her grandchildren.
Sonia had been in ill health which spanned for several months. Although in much pain she never lost her contagious smile or her personality no matter the circumstances or the pain she was enduring. Her friendliness and kindness to all people as well as her devotion and love to family is a tribute to the beauty of her heart and soul.
Sonia was a loving companion, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She leaves to cherish her memories for her partner, Ernest Bond of 40 plus years. She leaves behind 4 children; Rashawna D. Cooper (Tremayne), Chelsea L. Cooper, Hattie S. Cooper and Amondo R. Bond. Her children blessed her with 10 grandchildren that she loved dearly: (Chaunaza, Kadijah, Chaudaey, Dominique, Dazzure, Tremaziya, Travelle, Tamiyah, Taliyah and Haiden). Sonia was blessed with 5 great grands: (Peyton, Jordan, Peysli, Khalaya and Kayzen), 2 bonus grandchildren are TyCarri and Maleah. Also left to cherish those precious memories are her loving, devoted mother Margaret Taybron; her brothers; Alfred (Francine) Cooper, Michael (Cassandra) Cooper, Charles Cooper and Curtis Cooper; her sisters Karen (Raymond) McNair and Martha James and 2 daughters in love Stephanie and Chayla. She leaves behind 2 close friends Delphine Belfield and Phyllis Barlow.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alfred Cooper, her three sons Chauncey E. Cooper, Ernesto Cooper and El-Nino Cooper, her sisters Angelic Clark and Phyllis Jones, her brother William "Eddie" Cooper, her granddaughter Amira and her grandson in love TyQuan Woods and last but not least her son in love Earl (Paco) Martin. Sonia leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
It is the desire of the Cooper family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
