Ms. Shirley Williams Obituary

Ms. Shirley Mae Williams was called to her eternal resting place on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Sentara Heart Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia.   She was born on April 14, 1955, to the late George and Geneva Williams in Newport News, Virginia.  She is also preceded in death by her grandparents, Henry and Mary S. Walker; two sisters, Doletha E. Williams Lynch and Claritha Ann Lynch and her stepbrother, Charlie Williams.

Ms. Williams was a sweet, wise and sassy-spirited woman.   She had a very big heart and loved her family affectionately.  She cherished her family and was very nurturing to all of her nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters and most of all, her son Derrick.  Ms. Williams graduated from Hampton High School and obtained her Associates Degree from Thomas Nelson Community College.  She retired after 32 years of service from the Hampton Police Department in the Records Division.

At an early age, Ms. Williams joined Goodwill Baptist Church, where she sang in the Choir.  She had a beautiful, unique, high pitched, soprano opera-toned voice.   Ms. Williams always had a passion for singing.  She and Derrick wrote a song together, "Jesus, Master of My Soul".

Ms. Williams leaves to cherish her memories:  loving son, Derrick Williams; daughter-in-law, Kia Johnson; one goddaughter, Tamica Davis;  one sister, Alice Lorraine Williams Dixon-Brooks and one brother, George Alexander Williams, III, all of Hampton, Virginia; two grandchildren,    Dedryck and Kai Williams of Hampton, Virginia; one aunt, Dolena Stith of Emporia, Virginia; two brothers-in-law, Moses Lynch and Kermit Lynch (Diane) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

It is the desire of the Williams family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
