Mrs. Shirley Mae Smith transitioned from this life into eternal rest on Sunday, November 7, 2020.

Shirley was known for her big heart. She never wanted to see you down. No matter what the situation was, she wanted to fix it and did. It did not matter if you were a stranger, by time you finished you were a friend. She never wanted to see you without. Her smile was so infectious that it would brighten your day. There was nothing that she would not do for you, whether it was feeding I ng you, giving you advice, or just making you smile. Shirley loved God and her strength came from him. Family was very important to her.

Shirley loved us all the same but different. She instilled respect and love that we all share with each other. She was the head coach of our team, with having a special loving relationship with each of us.

Shirley was preceded in death by her son; Jeffrey V. Higgs

Shirley leave to cherish her loving memory, her children, August J. Smith, Jr. (Leslie); Tracie L. Smith- McCantis (Kerry); Calvin J. Smith b.k.a Jo-Jo (Gerri); Nicole Jenkins (Davyon) and daughter-in-law Deidre Higgs. Her thirteen grandchildren, Myron Higgs; August A. Tylor (Christina); Alex A. Smith; Antwoine Smith (Jolie’s); Deyonte Farrell; Damontae Ballard; Ryan Fenney; Alexis Lewis (Mike); Ty’asia A. Hamilton; Ci’ara A. Hamilton, Chemeko D. Smith; D’liyah M. Bailey; Makayla Smith; Jaidah L.R. Smith; twenty-three great great grandchildren, “SOS” Allison Garner, two brothers, one sister and a host of nephews, nieces, very close family and friends.

 

Viewing for Mrs. Smith will be held prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2020 at First Church of Newport News Baptist, 2300 Wickham Avenue, Newport News, Virginia 23607.

 

Services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2020 at First Church of Newport News Baptist by Elder Shaun Lynch.

 

It is the desire of the Smith family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
