Ms. Sherleen Green Obituary

Ms. Sherleen Denise Green, 66, of Hampton, Virginia entered into eternal peace with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 6, 2024.  She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be sadly missed and forever in our hearts.

Sherleen was born in Newport News, Virginia, on September 27, 1957 to  Harvey Green Jr. and Glenna Lee Green.  She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Karen L. Green.

At an early age, she was led to Christ by her mother (her hero) and began a long-lasting relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Hampton, Virginia since March 2002. She thoroughly enjoyed Bible Study class and was a devoted attendee.  Her faith in God was unwavering and she held firmly to His hand in good times and tough times.

Sherleen was strong-willed and known for being a straight-forward and very giving individual. She loved her family and would help you however she could.  Although she had no children of her own, she loved all children. Driven by love for family, she  helped raise two great-nieces: Makayla Munn and Mariah "Nico" Munn. She will be an everlasting part of the lives of the hundreds of young students that she taught.  She had multiple small pets (hamsters, gerbils, turtles, birds, guinea pigs, hermit crabs, etc), which she loved and cared for throughout her adult life.  She had recently taken up gardening and seemed to have a knack for it; producing flourishing flowers and vegetables.  And of course, she enjoyed her Western TV shows.

She received her formal education in the Newport News Public Schools system and graduated from Warwick High School in 1974.  Sherleen went on to pursue higher education at Thomas Nelson Community College and Christopher Newport University; earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education in 1992.

After more than 34 years with Newport News Public Schools, Sherleen retired in September 2021 as a Pre-K school teacher from Watkins Early Childhoood Center. She was chosen as Teacher of the Year in 1996 at Warwick Early Childhood Center, Newport News.  She was passionate about teaching and invested untold hours and funds to ensure her children received a quality education filled with fun and love.

She leaves to cherish, celebrate, and continue her legacy, two sisters, Colette (Tolbert) Munn and Adriane (Steven) Price ,  special nephew Lawton Green, and a host of nieces, great nephews, great nieces, special and sole remaining aunt Delores Gayle, cousins, extended family members and friends, including long-time friend Steven Warren. We will miss her until the end.

A funeral service will be held at 1 pm Friday, March 15, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 171 Semple Farm Road, Hampton, Va.  Entombment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing for Ms. Green will be from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm Thursday, March 14, at C.C. Carter Funeral Home.
