Ms. Shelia Leonard Obituary

Shelia Ann Leonard, affectionately known as “Ma Shelia,” “She She,” and “Shelia Ann,” was born in Newport News, Virginia to the late Pompey D. Leonard and Julia Pearl Silver. She was educated in the Newport News Public School System and was a faithful member of Zion Baptist Church of Newport News.

She was preceded in death by her nephew, Leardis “Lee” Leonard.

Shelia was known for her loving heart and generous spirit. She loved cooking for her family and the City Line Apartments community, enjoyed playing cards, and treasured time spent with friends. An avid Washington Commanders fan, she rarely missed a game. You could often find her watching the Game Show while on her tablet, fully engaged and smiling.

Shelia leaves to cherish her precious memories her long-time companion of over 40 years, Ronald “Ronnie Boy” Beckett; her sons, Apostle Dartameon Leonard and Dominque Leonard (Latasha) of Newport News, Virginia; her daughter, Tawanna Leonard-Johnson (Andre) of Newport News, Virginia; her grandchildren, Sa’Nyiah, Kyree, Tannoccus, Symphany, and Rah’Kwez; one sister, Flossie Leonard; one brother, John Raymond Leonard (Sandra); nephews/niece Dontrell, Sr. (Tamara), Dontrell “Deuce” Jr., Raenita, Raymond, Corey, Eric (Kindala), and Marlon. Shelia also leaves to cherish her memories aunts Naomi Massenburg and Catherine Harris.

She also leaves behind three special children, Takenya Gilbert, MeKayla Reaves, and Dwayne Hargraves; her devoted caregiver, Toni Day; and a host of relatives, and friends.

It is the desire of the Leonard family  that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
