Ms. Sandra Charity Obituary

Sandra Marie Bailey Charity, 77, of Hampton, VA, peacefully transitioned from this life in her home on June 12, 2025, with her devoted son, Shawn, by her side.

Born on May 18, 1948, in Newport News, VA, Sandra was the cherished daughter of the late Thaddeus McKinley Bailey and Inez Prescott Bailey.

From a young age, Sandra exemplified grace, quiet determination, and a heart full of compassion. She graduated with pride from Huntington High School, Class of 1966, a foundation that would launch her into a lifelong journey of learning and service.

Sandra pursued higher education later in life, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Christopher Newport University in 2003. This achievement reflected her steadfast belief in education, personal growth, and giving back to her community.

Sandra devoted over 40 years of her professional life to higher education and student development, culminating in her retirement from Old Dominion University in 2021.

Her presence at ODU was marked by unwavering integrity, wisdom, and a quiet strength that inspired all who had the privilege to work alongside her. Through her tireless efforts, she uplifted generations of students and colleagues, many of whom credit her mentorship and encouragement as pivotal to their success.

Sandra will be remembered not only for her quiet reserve and thoughtful presence but also for the deep well of strength, dignity, and kindness she carried through every chapter of her life. Her legacy is one of resilience, wisdom, and unwavering love for her family and community.

Sandra leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted son Shawn Charity of Hampton, 3 adored grandsons, Thierry, Terris, and Travion; brothers, Austin Bailey of Charlotte, NC, Joe Bailey of Newport News, and Floyd Bailey of Hampton; and sister, Wyetta Blake (husband Bunny) of West Point, seven great-grandchildren and a beloved circle of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends who were all blessed by her gentle spirit, quiet humor, and steadfast love.

It is the desire of the Charity/Bailey families that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

The family of Ms. Sandra Charity has entrusted her final care to C. C. Carter Funeral Home.
