Melissa Seabrooks was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 3rd 1968 to the late Mary Jo Seabrooks, and was later adopted by her late aunt Jessie Lee McMullin who raised her in Queens,New york. Melissa was preceded in death by not only both her birth mother and adopted mother but by 2 brothers Andrew Seabrooks and Alfred “Priest” Seabrooks as well as a sister Claudia Seabrooks Dixon.
Melissa was raised in South Ozone Park, NY and attended Brooks United Methodist Church until 2008 when she moved to Newport News, VA where she has lived for the past 13 years. Melissa leaves to cherish her memory, her brothers Willie (Diane) Seabrooks of Utica New York, Jeffery A Seabrooks of New York, her sister in laws Kimberly Seabrooks of Newport News VA, and Renae Chandler of Staten Island NY, a host of nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Melissa spent 9 years living in the home with Kimberly and her children after the death of her brother Andrew. In 2017 Melissa moved to Thims Group Home due to early onset Altimers. While living at Thims she attended a day support program until her health began to decline and she became immobile. When Melissa was really active and vibrant she enjoyed dancing, watching any Tyler Perry Play or Movie, and watching tv (especially Jerry Springer and Maury) for those who really knew Lisa as we so affectionately called her, would hear her say Ooooo and Hmmm as well as Uht oh and then bust out laughing. Her favorite snack was BBQ chips and Diet Pepsi (Lisa what do you want Swoda and Chips). We will miss the occasional Black Monkey comment, the Ooo I’m telling, the infectious laugh, and oh her favorite you wanna fight lol.
Sleep well my sister. Your mom, aunt/mom, brothers and sister were all waiting to welcome you with open arms. Melissa has been returned to her Heavenly home and restored to happiness and free from pain. Dance my sister smile and laugh. Save a place for us at the gates of Heaven.
