Ms. Melissa Fentress

Ms. Melissa Darlene Fentress, born on December 12, 1956, to the late Apostle Milton Fentress and Saint Bertha Fentress, peacefully transitioned on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Bayside of Poquoson Health and Rehabilitation Center in Poquoson, Virginia.

Darlene was educated in the Newport News public school system and graduated from Homer L. Ferguson High School, class of 1975.

Darlene was a lifelong member of the United House of Prayer for All People, where she served as an Adult Usher. Darlene, a woman of simple pleasures and constant happiness, found a special joy in her role as an Adult Usher. It was there, among a dedicated group of women, that she discovered a bond so strong it felt like family. They were more than just Ushers; they were sisters, sharing laughter, support, and a common purpose. Their close-knit group was a testament to Darlene's ability to find warmth and connection in every aspect of her life.

Darlene leaves behind cherished memories with her mother, Bertha Fentress of Newport News, VA, and her sisters: Denise Claudette Brown of Washington, DC; Sarah Yvonne Smothers of New York City; Angela Fentress of Newport News, VA; Djuana Neicy Polk of Charlotte, NC; and Pamela Owens of Norfolk, VA. She is also survived by her brother, Milton Darius Fentress of Washington, DC, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

It is the desire of the Fentress family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
