Melisa Rachelle Darby was born on February 13, 1981 in Hampton VA to her loving parents, Ray Newsome and Dainer White.
Melisa attended Heritage High School, where she graduated with honors. Upon graduating, Melisa enlisted in the United States Army, where she served for eleven years. While stationed overseas in Korea, she met and married Braxton Darby. During this union, they had two daughter's, Makayla and Bianca Darby. Through her many years of service, Melisa became a Sergeant and did two tours in Iraq. Melisa was also stationed in Germany and Texas, and finalized her military career in Fayetteville, NC. Melisa specialized in Automated Logistics and was honored with numerous awards. These awards consisted of: Two Army Commendation Medals, Four Good Conduct Medals, 2 Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, An Army Achievement Medal and a Second Infantry Achievement Awards and Many Others.
After Melisa retired from the Army, she still wanted to do work for the military, so she gained employment at the South Post Commissary in Fayetteville, NC. She worked under DECA, and became their most valuable employee. Melisa was known as someone who took her job seriously. She always made sure things ran correctly and efficiently. She enjoyed the salads, sandwiches and bagels that she would often bring home to her daughter's and companion.
Melisa was also known as a realist and a very earthly person. She dealt only with things that made sense, and refused to surround herself with any type of drama or bad energy.
Melisa loved her music, and she love caring for her cats with her daughters. Melisa love for her daughter was her most precious gift. She would always tell her mom I Love Seeing the girls in the kitchen cooking their magic, Melisa and her mother shared a mutual love of plants, that soon became a, "Lisa and Dana thing." Melisa's favorite NFL team was the Seattle Seahawks in which she rooted on win or loss.
Melisa also loved being around the one's she loved, the love she gave was reciprocated. She will indeed be missed by many. Melisa is preceded in death by her grandmother's Lois R. Shelton and Eunice Newsome, her grandfather's Henry Shelton and Clevend Newsome, her aunts Faye Newsome and Cheryl Jones, her uncles Curtis Newsome and Andre White, and Leonardo White, cousins Shannon Wilkerson and Arnie Rafus.
Melisa is survived by her daughter's, Makayla and Bianca Darby, her parents Ray Newsome and Dainer White, her brother Antonio White and her sister Chanda White her companion Terry Lamont Walters. And other family members Vikki Lance, Michelle Mason and Katina Harvey. Her nephews Jaylen and Javien White, her nieces Jahniece White, Ciera White, Aniyah White, Jahmea White, Autumn White, Latease Mason Juanita Mason and Lakeya (BooBoo) Mason, close cousins Ashley, Nicole Courtney and Lee Newsome, closest friends Taya Trower, Shakira Mungo, Jannetta Bartlett Wiggins, Candace Miller- Harper and Shauniko Smith. Melisa will be deeply missed by a host of family, cousins, friends and others whose lives she touched.
It is the desire of the Darby / White and Newsome families that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
