Ms. Mary Byrd- Freeman

Mrs. Mary Catherine byrd Freeman, she departed her life on Sunday May 14, 2023 at the age of 74. She was born in Newport News on July 26, 1948. Mary was  a resident of both Newport News and Hampton, VA.  for the total 74 years.  

She worked as a black business owner,  first black to own an employment agency in the state of Virginia, uptown connection along with a thrift shop that provided clothes and households goods for the unfortunate in the community or anywhere as well as Jobs.
She retired June 12,  2005.

She was preceded in death by her (husband) Andre D. Freeman, (mother)Mattie Sue byrd,(father) Ernest Byrd,(1) Sister Rosa Lee Nicholson ,(5) Brothers Ernest Lee byrd, Landia Williams, Linwood byrd, Allen Williams, Leroy Byrd Lindbergh byrd.

She leaves to cherish her memory (3) Sisters Rosa Mae Carpenter(Wendell) of Hampton, Marvina Byrd(Mustafa)of Newport News, Ernestine Allen Byrd Higgs(Bobby) of Hampton(1) Daughter  Veronica "Queen" Byrd Benton(Tony Ty Benton),(1) Son Mario "Director" Byrd Sr.(Evetta L. Byrd),(2) Granddaughters Peccolia "Pepsi" Byrd (Rell) Zaire L Kemp Byrd(Jaquan),(2)Grandson Marcid V. Byrd, Mario D. Byrd Jr.,(7) Great-grandchildren, and a Host neices nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends......

It is the desire of the Freeman family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
