Ms. Maria Sakura Hirsch

Maria Sakura Hirsch, age 53, passed away peacefully on  June 25th, 2021 surrounded by her family. Maria was born on August 15, 1967 to John Hirsch III and Chieko Hirsch at the Tashikawa Air Base in Tokyo, Japan. As the first born of a military family, her youth was spent traveling to places such as Japan, Ohio, Illinois, Hawaii, and finally to Virginia where her family remains today. Maria graduated from Hampton High School and later attended Thomas Nelson Community College, where she received her certification as a Nurse’s Aid. Being the eldest of six, taking care of others came natural.

Maria was a loving and devoted mother of two boys whom she loved dearly. She embraced the role of mother to many others including  her Godson.  Maria's heart was full of love. Maria lived life to the fullest always marching to the beat of her own drum. She loved reggae and Bob Marley.  On most Sundays you could find her playing bingo, and on Mondays bowling with her sister. Maria was smart, beautiful, strong, fun, loving, and always cheerful.  Her smile was always bright, and her laugh was infectious.  To know her is to love her.

Maria is survived by her parents John Hirsch III and Etsuyo Hirsch. Her sons Marquis Finnell Jr. (Michelle) and James Barlow.  Her sisters Melinda Hirsch (Curt) and Renee Hirsch.  Her brothers John Hirsch IV (Krystal), James Hirsch, and Pierre Hirsch.  Her grandchildren Kameron, Juelz, Miko, Jasia, Torique, and Alesia Jade, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Maria you will be deeply missed but your spirit lives on inside all of our hearts.  One Love!

Viewing for Ms. Hirsch will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, July 6 2021 at New Hope Baptist Church, 1415 Big Bethel Road, Hampton, Virginia 23666.

Services for Ms. Hirsch will take place immediately following the viewing at 11:00 a.m., at New Hope Baptist Church, with Dr. Christopher C. Carter Sr., presiding.
