Ms. Joyce Watson

Ms. Joyce Helen Watson, aged sixty-two of Shaw, Mississippi, passed away in her home in Newport News, Virginia.

She attended Shaw High school where she was an exceptional student and like her father, Rueben “Rock” Watson also a basketball star. She was an all-around athlete and lover of sports but her first love was basketball! She was so gifted on the court that she was named and played on the Mississippi High School All Star team during her senior year in High School. She received a full basketball scholarship to Tougaloo College where she played point guard. Upon graduation, she joined the army because she “wanted to see the world.”  After her duty in the army was completed, she worked in nursing as an LPN for the next 20 years before leaving that profession to care full-time for a dear friend.

Fiercely independent, even after her stroke in 2021, she was determined to recover and live on her own once again. After many struggles, she finally realized that goal. 

Joyce will be missed and was proceeded in death by her parents, Rueben E. Watson, Sr, and Rachel (Bell) Watson and is survived by her younger siblings, Rueben Watson Jr., and Jelisa Watson.

It is the desire of the Watson Family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
