With deep sorrow and loving remembrance, we announce the passing of Florence Washington Jenkins, who departed this life on August 27, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on March 3, 1949, in Staten Island, New York, to the late Albert and Grace Washington (Ellam). Florence was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Her radiant spirit, unwavering love, and generous heart left an indelible mark on everyone who had the honor of knowing her.
Florence lived an active and vibrant life, filled with love and purpose. She loved the beach, where she found calm and clarity, and she had a true passion for gardening. She found joy in painting and cherished the written word; her love of reading was a true reflection of her curious and thoughtful spirit. A phenomenal cook, Florence’s kitchen was a place of comfort and community. Her legendary cakes were more than just desserts; they were acts of love, made with care and shared with joy. They brought people together and created cherished memories that her family will treasure forever.
Florence earned her Associate Degree from Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio, an achievement she pursued with pride and determination. Her commitment to personal growth served as an inspiration to her children and grandchildren. Florence dedicated over 25 years of her professional life to St. Vincent de Paul, where she was respected and admired for her compassion, tireless work ethic, and unwavering dedication to serving others, earning her a promotion to Supervisor/Case Manager of the Kettering Commons Program. She offered not only help but hope to
those in need, and her legacy of service will not be forgotten.
Florence was the devoted mother of four sons: Zachary Jenkins (Song), Kevin Jenkins (Elaine), James Jenkins (Daniela), and Brian Jenkins. She was the proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren, the joyful great-grandmother of 11 greatgrandchildren, and the delighted great-great-grandmother of 2. Her family was the center of her world, and her home was filled with laughter, good food, and unconditional love.
She is also survived by her two loving sisters, Marion Cooper (John) and Edith Washington (Rob Jones), and her brother, Albert Washington, who will cherish her memory forever. Florence also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends who will continue to carry her spirit with them.
Throughout her life, Florence was a pillar of strength, resilient, wise, and fiercely loving. She faced life’s challenges with courage and grace, placing others before herself. Her presence brought comfort, her laughter brought light, and her love was boundless. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched. Her love will echo through generations, and her memory will be a blessing forever.
It is the desire of the Jenkins family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
