Ms. Eva Mae Stinson

Ms. Eva Mae Stinson, affectionately known as Betty Jean, was born in Camden, South Carolina, to the late Willie Sr. and Louise Stinson. On May 23, 2026, God called her home. She peacefully transitioned at the age of 72 after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer, surrounded by family and loved ones at her home in Newport News, Virginia. Betty was the youngest of eight children.

Betty lived life on her own terms. With her signature red lipstick and blues music playing in the background, She was truly the life of the party. She loved deeply and accepted people for who they were. One of her favorite sayings was, “No one can judge you but GOD.”

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; three sisters; one sister-in-law; her stepdaughter, Tylet; her favorite nephew Freddie J. Stinson, her niece Geraldine Johnson, several nieces and nephews; and many loved ones who have gone before her.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: one son, Gregory Stinson; two daughters, Crystal Everett and Julia Everett; eight beloved grandchildren: Ahmir, Savion, Gregory, Carter, Darnell, Abe Oo, Becky Da, and Caleb; her longtime partner, Joe Whiting; one sister-in-law, Edith Stinson; two honorary daughters, Lema and Kima; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

It is the desire of the Stinson- Everett families that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

The family of Ms. Eva Mae Stinson has entrusted her final care to C. C. Carter Funeral Home.
