Ms. Debra Gray

On Wednesday, February 10th, 2021 Ms. Debra R. Gray   entered eternal rest in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at Riverside Hospital.  She was born December 20th, 1957 to the late Charles H. Gray, Sr. and Ophelia R. Gray Hobson in Newport News, Va.

Debra, affectionately known as “Debbie” and “Ma Dukes” by her children was educated in the Newport News, Va. Public School System.  She was employed by the former Friends of the Homeless Shelter for many years.  Debra enjoyed dancing, singing, and was known for “feeding the neighborhood”.  She left an indelible imprint on the lives of those with whom she came in contact.  Debra will be greatly missed.

Debra was preceded in death by her mother, Ophelia R. Gray Hobson, father Charles H. Gray, Sr., and brother, Charles H. Gray, Jr.  Left to cherish her fond memories are her sons of Newport News, VA: Anthony Royall, Jerome Royall, Jr., Derrick Gray; sisters: Brenda Walston, Miranda Royall of Hampton, VA.; Natalie Washington of Columbus, OH; Tanya Lucas of New York City; Tammy McCaffrey, Trina Gray of Raleigh, NC; brothers: Herman “Tony” Gray and Jeffery Gray(Fran) of Hampton, VA.  Additionally, Debra leaves to cherish her memories: 14 grandchildren, and a special cousin in Delores “Cookie” Hines, and special friend Younger Monroe and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A walk through viewing for Ms. Gray will be held Friday, February 19, 2021  from 1:00p.m. until 5:00p.m. at C.C. Carter Funeral Home. Inc. Social distance will be practiced 10 persons at a time. 

Services for Ms. Gray will be held 11:00a.m. Saturday, at New Hope Baptist Church. 1415 Big Bethel Rd, Hampton, VA. 

Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
