“To every man there opens a high way and a low. And every man decides the way his soul will go.”
Deborah Featherston chose the high way paved in caring, loving, and thoughtfulness to her family, friends, and people she met throughout her life.
Deborah was the fourth child born to Daisy Featherston and the late Carson E. Featherston on May 5, 1965. Daisy provided an environment of love, support and focus on education as an opportunity for success for Deborah and all of her children.
Deborah was educated in Newport News Public Schools and earned a diploma from Menchville High School in June of 1983. She attended ECPI to become certified in medical coding. Deborah, using her gift as a fast and accurate typist, received her first job as a medical transcriptionist at C&W Associates in Newport News. She later worked as a medical bill coder at Tidewater Orthopedic.
Deborah, who resided in Newport News, VA, was an avid reader. Her love of books and learning provided her with the opportunities to improve her professional skills and assist in caring for her family. She devoted her later years as a caregiver to her mother.
Known for her kindness, devotion and loyalty to family and friends, her impact on them has been indelible. Quietly and unassumingly, she has left a profound effect on those she has touched.
She leaves to sorrowfully mourn her loss a devoted mother, Daisy Jennings and stepfather Thomas Jennings; sister Lenora McClain of Harrisburg, PA; brother Carl E. Featherston of Hampton, VA and sister Delona Watkins (Keith) of Hampton, VA; two nieces Taisha Featherston of Williamsburg VA and Penelope Wright of Hampton, VA; nephew Devon Watkins of Newport News, VA and a host of other family members.
Deborah was preceded in death by her father Carson E. Featherston
