Ms. Cheryl Ann Balfour-Perry, born on November 17, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York, was the eldest of three daughters of Theodore Victor Balfour and Catherine Olivia Christian Balfour. She entered the world at Brooklyn Hospital and spent her formative years in the heart of the city she loved.
Cheryl was educated in the New York City Public School system, attending P.S. 93, P.S. 83, and Nathaniel Macon Junior High School before graduating from Prospect Heights High School. She went on to attend Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia. Committed to lifelong learning, Cheryl later pursued further studies in management at Baruch College (City University of New York) and Guilford Technical Community College in Greensboro, North Carolina.
In February 1968, Cheryl married Richard Xavier Perry. From their union, three children were born: Richard Allen, Jennifer Catherine, and Deborah Lauren. Cheryl dedicated herself to raising her family, first in Bedford-Stuyvesant, then in Flatbush, where she lived with her mother and sisters. In 1995, she made the move to North Carolina, beginning a new chapter in her life.
Cheryl is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her children: Richard (Steven), Jennifer, and Deborah; her sisters: Deborah (Randy) and Robbin (Tony); her grandchildren: DeLauren “Yenni,” Raelyn, Catherine, Gabrielle, and Evan; her nephews: Thomas “Teddy” and Robert (her godson); her godson James; as well as a host of cousins and dear friends.
A celebration of Cheryl’s life will be held at a later date.
