Ms. Carolyn Smith Campbell, 72, gained her wings and rejoined her heavenly family on Saturday, November 6, 2021. She was born on August 12, 1949, in Newport News, Virginia to her late parents Pernell Joseph Smith and Carrie Louise Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings James “Jimmy” Smith, William “Billy” Nazareth, and Elmer Lee Nazareth.
Carolyn was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School, Newport News, class of 1967. She worked for Huntington Ingalls Industries Newport News Shipbuilding, retiring after 34 years of service. She was a member of Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple and a member of the Orange Blossom Ministry.
Carolyn leaves to cherish her memory: a devoted daughter, Selina Campbell Scott (Kenneth) of Winchester, CA; a loving granddaughter, Sade’ Campbell of Arlington, VA; her siblings, Doris Nazareth of Hampton, VA; Mable Drew, Joan Smith, and Helen Bland of Newport News, VA; Randolph Smith (Christine) of Pittsburg, PA; and Raymond Smith of Denver, CO; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Viewing for Ms. Campbell will be held from 1:00p.m. until 5:00p.m. Friday, November 26, at C.C.Carter Funeral Home, Inc.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00a.m., Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021 at Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple, 3100 Butternut Drive Hampton, VA by Rev. Dr. Jerome A. Barber.
Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
