Ms. Bernadette Harris Obituary

We are blessed to celebrate the life and legacy of Bernadette (Beddie) Harris, who transitioned to eternal life on July 17, 2025, at the Williamsburg Hospice House. Bernadette was born to the late Dorothy M. Ruffin and the late Bennie Harris on March 2, 1956 in Newport News, VA. Bernadette grew up in Newsome Park, where she attended Newport News Public Schools and studied business at Kee Business College. Before retiring, Bernadette worked for the Daily Press from 1987 to 2001.

She also retired from Dan Daniels Distribution Center after working there from April 2, 2007 until May 19, 2018. As a go-getter and a resilient hard worker, she also worked for Hampton Roads Transit. Bernadette was a member of the Eastern Star Naamah Chapter #23, Grand Chapter of Virginia.

She enjoyed dancing, the Dallas Cowboys and playing the lottery. She also enjoyed eating good home-cooked food such as her mom's chicken and dumplings and white Navy beans from Wilkes Bar-B-Q. Her favorite music includes Whitney Houston and Yolanda Adams. She was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy Jean Buie, brothers Aley Ruffin, Sr., Floyd L. Ruffin, Sr., Calvin N. Ruffin, and Michael A. Harris.

Bernadette leaves to cherish, her daughter Katina C. Harris, her sons Glenn Harris and Lavar M. Harris, grandchildren Elih Harris, Elonte Harris, Kalayah N. Bethea, Kaleil E. Harris, Kaceon Harris, Saviour Harris and 9 great grandchildren. She leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Bernadette is at peace now and never has to worry about pain again.
