Benita Jestine Matson, affectionately known as “Poochie” was born on July 8, 1976 in Newport News, Virginia to Juanita Watson and the late Daniel M. Bazemore. Benita graduated from Ferguson High School in Newport News, Virginia, Class of 1994. She also attended Kee Business College. She was employed with Wal Mart for 13 years and was loved by all who were blessed to cross her path.
Benita departed this life on July 7, 2025. Her faith was her strong tower and kept her going through her life, especially as she bravely battled her diagnosis. In short, she was a Warrior Woman. May the Lord be pleased with Benita. She was a giver and had the brightest smile and one of the kindest hearts you would ever encounter. She enjoyed nurturing her plants and was an avid sports fan and had a vast collection of tennis shoes.
Above all, Benita was a doting and loving mother who put her heart and soul into parenting her beautiful daughter, Juanita Matson.
Benita was predeceased in death by her loving Grandparents: Genaril and Jestine Watson; Uncle Troy Leon Watson and a very special Great-Aunt, Peggy Scott.
She leaves to cherish her sweet memory, a daughter, Juanita Matson, a loving and devoted mother, Juanita Watson, two loving brothers, Christopher Watson and Daniel Bazemore, Jr. (Salanny), one loving sister, Patrice Bazemore and nephews: Demere and McKenzie; nieces: Paris and Naraiah. Three uncles: James Louis Watson (Brookie); General Watson (Vicki); Johnnie Watson (Lawannah). Three aunts: Annette Watson, Stephanie Harewood (Roger) and Sonya Tynes (Na’Quash); and one great-uncle, Eddie Lewis Watson and a host of first and second cousins, who she adored and loved.
It is the desire of the Matson family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
