Ms. Barbara Earlene Jordan Howard, 86, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 4th, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones. A native of Newport News, she was born to the late Osie and Sarah E. Jordan on July 20th, 1937. Barbara, affectionately called “Babbry,” “Champ”, “Barbara Jordan” and “Aunt Barbara”, accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age.

She served at Wesley Grove United Church of Christ for decades. During those years, she served in several ministries. She later moved her membership to Ivy Farms Community of Faith Church where served in the choir.

Barbara graduated with the Huntington High School class of 1956. She later worked for the Newport News Public School System as a Crossing Guard. She retired from Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company.

During her leisure time, she enjoyed spending time sitting on the porch talking to her neighbors. In the kitchen, cooking pig feet was one of her favorite meals to prepare for family and friends’ during gatherings. On any day, you could find Barbara any day wearing her cowboy hats and pearls and fancy hats on Sundays.

She was preceded in death by her siblings; John Lewis, Frances Foster, Walter Jordan and Elaine Chandler, nephew; Kenneth Chandler and one great-niece; Kennika Chandler and a great -nephew Demone Apple.
