Tonja Denise Cobb, 56, of Hampton, Virginia, passed away on March 17, 2020, at her home after a long illness.
Tonja was born in Newport News, VA, on November 23, 1963, to Minnie R. Turner and the late Elzie Jones, Jr. She was raised by her grandparents, the late Edna Mae McCoy and Blease Edward McCoy. She is survived by her mother, Minnie R. Turner, her step-father, Luther Turner, her loving spouse of 32 years, Elmer Ray Cobb, Jr., two sons, Darius Ray Cobb, Phillip Edward Cobb (Jade), one daughter Amaya Denise Cobb, two nieces that were joined to her heart, Denise Michelle Hayward and Keishua Renee’ Turner. She is also survived by three siblings, Adrienne Renee Burns, April Michelle Turner, and Anthony G. Turner, their spouses, several nieces, nephews, and one grandson, Triston Ray Cobb.
Tonja attended Menchville High School in Newport News Virginia and went on to pursue a career in Home Health Care working many years as a caring and dedicated Health Care Practitioner. Tonja’s love for people was matched with her love for technology which led to a career shift. Tonja embarked and excelled in information technology, eventually promoting to management working as a Supervisor at West Communications, Inc. until the company relocated to the Midwest.
As a young adult, Tonja committed her life to Christ and was active in multiple local ministries including Calvary Community Church, Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple and Ivy Baptist Church where she was a member.
A viewing will be held from noon until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 22nd at C.C. Carter Funeral Home. Regrettably, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the guest are limited to the immediate family.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 23rd, at C. C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc. by Dr. Kevin G. Swann.
