Mrs. Susie Butler Obituary

Mrs. Susie S Butler, born on April 3, 1940, in Ivor, Virginia, to the late Lenious and Indie Picott. She was preceded in death by her sisters Cora Boone, Virta Mae Cooper, Pearline Tynes, and Christine Tynes, as well as her brothers Thomas Oliver Picott, Oscar Picott, and George L. Picott. Also preceding her in death were her infant daughters, Gloria Dean and Rosa Iola.

Susie was formerly married to Thomas Butler Sr., and from their union came five children: Susie A, Thomas Jr, Mary, Kevin, and Carolyn. She found strength through faith in God and the support of her loving family.

Educated at Westside School in Smithfield, Virginia, and Paul D Camp Community College in Suffolk, Virginia, where she studied nursing, Susie worked tirelessly as a domestic worker and briefly at Smithfield Meat Packing Plant. She was a devout Christian, baptized at Mt Sinai Baptist Church at the age of 14, and lived her life as a shining example of kindness and compassion.

Among her many joys were watching soap operas, listening to country music, cooking, cleaning, and spending cherished moments with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also had a keen interest in current affairs, particularly enjoying programs like World News Tonight with David Muir, Joy Reid, and Politics Nation with Al Sharpton.

Susie is survived by her sisters Lucille Jones and Mary Timmons, her children Susie Ann Butler, Mary Butler, Carolyn Harris (Bernard), Thomas A Butler Jr, and Kevin Butler (Jannet), as well as her grandchildren Autumn Harris, Alexis Butler, and Bernard Blair Harris, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family extends their gratitude to the medical professionals who cared for Susie, including the staff of Riverside Hospital, Warrick Forrest Rehabilitation Center, and Riverside Home Health and Hope at Home Healthcare. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.

It is the desire of the Butler family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
