Mrs. Stephanie O'Guinn Obituary

Stephanie Yvette O’Guinn was called home to be with the Lord on October 6, 2020. She was the daughter of the late Gladys L. Smith and Robert M. White. Stephanie was a graduate of Roy Miller High School and Vogue Beauty College.  She received her Cosmetology License in 1986.  She was also a graduate of Thomas Nelson Community College in 2007 where she received a Certificate in Child Development with an Honors recognition of Summa Cum Lada.

Stephanie’s love of her life was Sheldon whom she stood by and supported during 31 years of marriage, 22 years of service in the United States Navy, four educational degrees, and various absences.   Stephanie’s favorite pass time was spending time with her daughter and her four grandchildren any time of the day. She loved experimenting with different hairstyles, braids and shopping for herself and her grandchildren. She loved cooking on the holidays for the family, and dressing up for every occasion, which was a common trend in the family. Stephanie was employed by the Newport News Public School System for 20 years. She was an Instructional Assistant at Kiln Creek Elementary School where she passionately worked with students with Autism whom she loved. Her co-workers were considered her family.  Stephanie and Sheldon loved to travel, vacation, and visit with family and friends. When she was comfortable being herself around you, her laughter and childlike character were encouraging and uplifting. She had a big heart and loved to joke with her family and close friends. Stephanie had a gift of being a mediator and one of reason. She would advise you to put your differences aside and move in a spirit of reconciliation. Stephanie had a soft quiet spirit and heart for God that was infectious during a real conversation with her. She displayed unconditional love, reason, genuineness, and truthfulness that would sometimes catch you off guard and command your attention. She always wanted the best for everyone and would always give her best from her heart.

Although she preferred not to be called “First Lady”, she demonstrated all the characteristics and acts as such in providing genuine help to all in the background.  From a distance, she seemed like a quiet soul, but when the opportunity arose for her to speak, her sound words of faith in God, substance, and unconditional love positively impacted the lives of others. Stephanie was passionate about the Children’s Ministry and various other ministries, specifically Praise Dance and Church Plays.

Stephanie was a loving wife, mother, GiGi, sister, aunt, and friend.  Stephanie will be dearly missed by her husband Sheldon O’Guinn,  daughter Brittany O’Guinn, four grandchildren J’Kobi , Jeilani, Jeleia and J’Kane Zacharias. Maternal grandmother Dorothy M. Woodson of Williamsburg, VA, sisters Sherri Comfort (Steven) of Simi Valley CA, Kathy Price-Ward (Anthony) of Portsmouth, VA. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins,  in-laws, and other family and friends. She is preceded in death  by Darryl White (brother) and Robin Green (sister).
