Mrs. Sallie Bernice Sutton was born in Hertford NC on October 25, 1938. She went to be with the lord on February 7, 2024 while sleeping at home in Hampton Virginia. She retired from Newport News Shipyard many years ago. Sallies was a widow when her husband George Lewis Sutton Sr passed. She’s the moth- er of 8 children. Monzola Sutton, George Sutton Jr. and Sallie Ann Sutton who has passed before her.
Left to mourn her death are Georgiana Pickett, Amerry Jones, Martha Jones, Charlie Sutton, and Lisa Sutton. She also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great, and great great grandchildren. We love her dearly and will miss her, however her beautiful smile will be left in our hearts until we are reunited in heaven.
Sallie was sick and bedridden for several years. So her passing was not a surprise for the family. She was a faithful loving mother. She had an extraordinary life and overcame a lot of trials & tribulations. She had a great sense of humor, Sallie was very smart but due to some circumstances she wasn't allowed to attend school during her early years. She loved learning and yearned for her education and as her kids became more independent she went to night school and acquired her high school diploma.
She worked so many jobs. She was a door to door sales woman, a waitress, cleaner etc... And when an opportunity arose for a great career and income She went for it. She became a welder at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, she was among some of the first female welders at the shipyard.
She had to be confident, assertive and highly skilled to have that type of career, in that male dominated environment. She was also tall, beautiful, and very stylish from the cars she drove to her hair and long beautiful nails. She work there until she retired. She wanted to live a certain lifestyle and she didn't let anything stop her, she became fearless. She achieved her goals. Very inspirational. We admire her fortitude.
Not everybody gets to be the pretty delicate flower. She rarely bit her tongue and spoke what was on her mind like it or not. She was strong in every sense of the word. We are so thankful for God's grace and mercy because she got to be happy.
Psalm 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
It is the desire of the Sutton family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
