Mrs. Ruby Dell Perry (Jordan) was born on July 11th, 1938 to the late Claude Jordan and Lettie Jordan (Perry). On Tuesday, November 30th, 2021, she answered the Master’s call. The youngest of 10 children, she would spend time after school doing chores and then playing in the yard once all chores had been done. She and her siblings use to work for $3.00 a day around the farm.
She was educated in the Bertie County School System, her favorite teacher during her elementary school days was Ms. Swain. During her middle and high school years, her favorite teachers were Ms. Salmon, Ms. Martin, and Ms. Marsh. Her favorite subject was also English. As a little girl, her family would make corn cakes, chicken and dumplings, souse and crackers, fish, and sweet potatoes for her and her siblings to eat. She would also cook these same meals for her children and grandchildren, passing down family traditions. She was always willing to share family history and traditions with her loved ones.
She worked at ABB installing the wiring coils in generators. During her retirement, she loved to visit a few of her ladies that she often called them; known to the family as Ms. Armstead and Ms. Whitehead. To everyone who meet her, she became their mom or grandma. She would always be willing to pick one of her grandkids or great-grandkids up from school or work.
She is preceded in death by her parents Claude Jordan and Lettie Jordan (Perry), her husband Leslie Perry, her sons Llewellyn M Perry and Kenneth W Perry, daughters Delma R Sheard and Lettie Jean Perry-Coulman. Grandson Reginald L Perry Jr and granddaughter Syretta Brown. Brothers Fredrick (Annie), Walter Lee (O’Dell) Lonnie (Audrey), Matthew (Clara), sisters Josephine (James), Leatha (Richard), Berthine (Walter Lee), and Irene (The Author).
She leaves behind her loved ones to cherish her precious memories, her sister Mary (Samuel) Chamblee (Jordan), sister-in-law Audrey Jordan (Lonnie), son Reginald L Perry Sr. (Magdalene), daughter-in-law Felicia Perry (Kenneth), son-in-law Frank Coulman (Lettie). Granddaughters Shakita Roberts, Melody Sheard, Marcia Whittaker (Damion), Monique Sheard, Christina Perry (Reginald Jr), Rochelle Perry, Latasha Perry, and Kiara Coulman. Great-grandchildren Myiesha Sheard, Myaijah Sheard, Nakeya Perry, Takeya Perry, Reginald L Perry III, Damontae Brown, Davontae Brown, Shakila Roberts, Nykea Roberts, Kalihl Wharton, Aaliyah Wharton, Yazmyne Robers, and 4 great great grandsons. A host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, neighbors, family, and friends. Mrs. Ruby Perry transitioned Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Sentara Carplex Hospital, Hampton, Virginia.
Viewing for Mrs. Perry will be held from 1:00p.m. until 5:00p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at C.C.Carter Funeral Home, Inc.
Services for Mrs. Peryy will be held 11:00a.m. Thurday, December 9, 2021 at New Hope Baptist Church 1415 Big Bethel Rd. Hampton, VA. by Dr. Edith Charity
Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
