Renita Yvette Batts Moore, affectionately known as ButtaFly, Nitafaye, and Fish Sticks, gained her wings unexpectedly on August 23, 2025, at the age of 58. She was born March 1, 1967, in Newport News, Virginia, where she lived her life surrounded by family, friends, and community.
Renita loved to dance, sing, take pictures, and spend time with her grandchildren, who were her greatest joy. She never met a stranger—treating everyone like family—and will be remembered for her laughter, free spirit, and unapologetic love of life while doing everything ON PURPOSE.
Renita is now reunited in heaven with her father, Mr. William “Mack” Batts Sr.; her loving grandparents, Rebecca O. Monroe and John A. Carter Sr., along with Luther L. Batts and Annie Mae Batts; her mother- and sister-in-law, Cynthia and Wanda Moore; and her brother-in-law, Michael L. Webster. She also joins her maternal uncles—Calvin, Toby, and Johnny Carter—her paternal uncles, Luther Batts Jr. and Julius Batts, her niece Ashley Batts, and her nephews Ira and Wesley Batts.
She leaves behind her devoted husband of 21 years, Kenneth “Boog” Moore; her loving mother, Connie L. Batts; her children, Whitney “Nikki” Batts, Koni “KK” Batts, and McKinley E. Stokes; her brother, William “Butch” Batts (Wanda) and her sister, Annamae Batts Webster.
Renita was the proud grandmother of nine—Kaniyah, Keon, McKenzie, Maleena, McKinley Jr., Madisyn, McKhari, Ma’Launi, and Messiah—who were the light of her life. She is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, and extended family who loved her deeply.
Please continue to keep the Moore, Batts, and Stokes families in prayer.
The family of Mrs. Renita Yvette Moore has entrusted her final care to C. C. Carter Funeral Home.
