Regina “Gina” Marie Morton Perry was born to the late Hammitt Downey Jr. and Anna Marie Morton Harris in Durham, NC on June 6, 1971. She departed this life on January 25, 2024, at
Riverside Regional Medical Center, in Newport News, VA. She was educated in the Durham Public School System in Durham, NC.
Gina always brought light to any situation. She could make you laugh at the drop of a dime. She was the pillar of her community. Working in the Healthcare Field, no wonder why she was
a natural at this. Family was everything to her. She did what she had to do to ensure everyone was “Good”. Gina met no strangers! If you needed anyone or anything, call Gina aka “Big
Country”. She loved to sing, dance, and have a good time just like her mother. Wow she could move! She would dance circles around you, literally, which was proven by her dedicated “Boom-
Boom” room in her home. She loved football and loved to travel. The Dallas Cowboys were her TEAM! Gina loved to dress; don’t even think you were going to step on her Nike Air Max’s.
Gina was preceded in death by her parents Hammitt Downey Jr. and Anna Marie Morton Harris, brothers- Hammitt Downey III and Stanely Downey, eldest grandsons- Caden Antwan
Lipscomb-Blow and Xzavion “Boonchie” Lawton.
She leaves to cherish in her memory her husband Raymond Perry of the home, her five sisters- Tina Downey (Willie), Hamilla Rochelle, Tina Harris, Nicole Simmons (Michael), and Glenda Eller all of NC; two special sisters- Charlene Cotton (Michael) of Durham, NC and Kalisha Hill (Montell) of Newport, News, VA; one brother, Glendale Kirkland (Dinah) of King George, VA.; eight children-Imani Pierce (Antonio), Shaneice Lipscomb-Blow (Jeffrey), Gabrielle Morton, Angel Hill, Noel Hill, Raymond Hill- Perry (Simone), Kiara Stowes and Keon Stowes all of Newport News, VA; five brother-in-law’s- Raymond Jenkins Jr., William Jenkins (Darlene), Tyrone Jenkins, Steve Jenkins, Timothy Perry all of Newport News, VA; one sister-in-law-Linda Jenkins of Hampton, VA; eight grandchildren, one Uncle- Craig Lyons, one Great Uncle-David Lee Harris Sr. (Jannette), four Great Aunts-Doris Walker and Alice Harris of NC and Eleanor Little of MD and Evelyn Morgan (Ervin) of VA; six nieces inclusive of a special niece-Tonishia Harris, three nephews inclusive of a special nephew- Ty Harris-Gulley; five special cousins- Melody Harris, Kenneth Harris, Voisha Downey, Terry Battle and Lonnay Battle- her “Gator”; and a host of other relatives and friends.
