Mrs. Ramona Wilson Obituary

Mrs. Ramona Latrice James Wilson answered the call of her heavenly     Father and entered into eternal rest on November 23, 2019.  She was born March 5, 1958 to Wesley and Shirley James in Newport News, Virginia.

She was educated in Newport News Public Schools where she graduated from Menchville High School. She attended Virginia School of Hair Design.

Ramona was a fun-loving person with an outgoing personality.  She enjoyed serving people everywhere. Her first love was cooking and was a Manager of several establishments to include Quisnos, Burger King and GNC. Her love for cooking prompted her to open her catering service.

Ramona was a lover of music and enjoyed singing. Along with her brothers and sisters, she organized the group “NYU Image”. The group went on to participate in the “Budweiser Showdown,” and with the help of a song written by Ramona, the group placed tenth out of thousands of entries.

In later years, Ramona traveled with the group “The Taylor Singers” and used her song writing skills and co-wrote “Mighty God” for the group’s first CD.

She later joined Grace Temple Worship Center under the leadership of Pastor Jimmy Searcy.  There she sang with the Praise Team until her health began to fail her.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wesley James; grandparents, Annie and Leslie Taylor and Annie and Willie Joe Bryant; Sheila Banks, Wendella Maddrey, Demetrius Bailey and Devan Hughes.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Willis Wilson; mother, Shirley James; children, Chandra Bailey (Willie) of Newport News, VA, Tico Estes of Williamsburg, VA and Wesley Estes of Newport News, VA; step-daughter, Tosha Wilson of Norfolk, VA; ten grandchildren; three great-grands; sisters, Anita James of Newport News, VA, Marguerita Dawes (Willie) of Hampton, VA, and Sandra James of Newport News, VA; two brothers, Antony James (Malika), Newport News, VA and Carl James (Linetta), Hampton, VA; one aunt, Gwendolyn Odum, Newport News, VA and a host of other family members.
