Lizzie W. Stamps affectionately known as Liz peacefully slipped into eternal rest on December 3, 2019 at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. Liz was born to the late Walker Wade and the late Cleadie Wade on June 7, 1928.
Liz was a devoted and faithful member of First Baptist Church Denbigh for over fifty years. She was extremely proud to say with a smile that, “ First Baptist Church Denbigh was her church.” Until her health declined she was always willing to help or participate in any church activity. Liz was also an outstanding business woman. She owned and operated Liz Beauty Salon for thirty plus years. Liz found time to travel, entertain and shop. She helped anyone in need.
Liz was preceeded in death by her parents, sister Melba Oliver and Magnora Wade and her granddaughter Gwendolyn Porter.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She leaves behind her son James L. Stamps, Sr. (Barbara), her daughter Ruth Y. Porter, grandson James L. Stamps, Jr. (Sonya), granddaughter Tracy Crudup (James), great grandsons Eric Hill, Derrell Crudup and Joseph Crudup. Great granddaughters Jamicia Stamps and Taylor Crudup, great- great grandson Christian Crudup, sister Lacala Day, nieces Brenda Paul (Bobby), Jennifer Scotton and Sharon Oliver.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2019 at First Baptist Church Denbigh, 3628 Campbell Road, Newport News, Virginia.
Services will immediately follow the viewing at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2019 at First Baptist Church Denbigh.
Interment will follow at the Church Cemetery.
