Linda Cordelia Booth Burrell of Gloucester, VA passed away peacefully on October 30, 2020 at MCV, Richmond, VA. She was born January 4, 1949 to Catherine Brooks Booth and Leon Booth. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alexander Fred Burrell, Jr., siblings; Loretta Tyler and Billy Pollard; step-children; Dennis Catlett and Karen Billups Ford; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Tyler, William Burrell and Wayne Burrell; sister-in-law, Gloria Burrell and mother and father-in-law, Gertrude and Alexander Fred Burrell, Sr.
Linda was baptized and joined the Morning Glory Baptist Church at an early age. Pursuing her love for music, she started taking piano lessons at the early age of 6. During her adult years, Linda became the pianist/organist for several churches in Gloucester, VA. Linda graduated in 1967 from T. C. Walker School, Roane, VA. She continued her education at Norfolk State College, Norfolk, VA and graduated with a B.S. in Special Education and a Minor in Music Education.. Linda was a member of Sigma Gama Rho sorority. She began her teaching career in the Virginia Beach School System and retired in 2010 from the Gloucester County Public Schools with a total of 40 years of service.
Linda will be remembered for being a loving, kind, compassionate, and humble person. She greeted everyone with a smile and never met a stranger. Family was Linda’s priority. She enjoyed spending time and reminiscing with her family and friends. Three of Linda’s closest friends, Jean Y. Foster, Ruby Gray, and Faye M. Washington will miss the hilarious stories she shared with them on a continuous basis.
Left to cherish Linda’s beautiful memories are her sons Dontaniel and Ketonno Burrell, and Grandson, Adarius Burrell, who all resided in Gloucester with her; step-daughter, Tonia Waddy (Terrance), aunts, Joyce Gist of Gloucester and Velma Newsome of Philadelphia, daughter-in-law, Deborah Catlett, brothers-in-law; Charles Burrell (Delphine), Michael Burrell, Gerald Burrell, Jerome Ashby (Lisa), sisters -in- law; Karen Bailey (Floyd), Yvonne Anderson (Jerry) Althea Santiago (Jose) Gwendolyn Bennette (James), and a host of other relatives.
Mrs. Burrell will lie in state from 1:00p.m. until 2:30p.m. Sunday, November 8, 2020 at The Light House Assemblies of God Church. 4299 George Washington Hwy. Gloucester, VA.
Services for Mrs.Burrell will be held at 2:30 p.m.Sunday, November 8, 2020 at The Light House Assemblies of God Church. 4299 George Washington Hwy. Gloucester, VA
Interment will follow at the Morning Glory Baptist Church Cemetery. Gloucester, VA.
