To God Be the Glory! Mother Lillie J. Patterson, 88 of Hampton, VA went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 16, 2025. She was called to eternal rest at her home on Algonquin Road after a short illness. She wassurrounded by her loving and supportive family.
Lillie J. Patterson was born on February 14, 1937 to Milton Banks and Louise Brockington Banks in Enfield, NC. She was the seventh child of thirteen. She attended Inborden High School in that city. In 1962, she moved to Virginia.
Mother Patterson worked through the years at The Crab Factory and Patrick Henry Nursing Home in Newport News, VA. She also worked as a Housekeeper at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, VA for over 20 years. She was a very conscientious and dedicated employee.
In 2009, Lillie J. Rodgers married Lawrence Patterson and this union became a blended family. Mother Pattersonenjoyed spending time with her husband. They loved to take long drives, shopping, visiting the sick and being with family. She always wanted her family to come together for holidays.
Mother Patterson began her walk with the Lord at Pentecostal Assembly under the Leadership of Bishop Leroy Robinson of Newport News ,in 1970. She then joined Spiritual Aid Way of the Cross in 1976, under the leadership of Elder Frank Mitchell; she was a devoted and dedicated member there for 25 years. In 2000, she joined Greater Emmanuel Temple; under the leadership of Bishop Leon Pierce. She was a dedicated and supportive member until her passing. Mother Patterson was a strong woman of God and a prayer warrior. She was such a great example of how to live and walk in holiness. She was an encouragement to us all. She grew in the Lord, always showing kindness and leading by example. She was a woman of God; who showed us how to live a “Holy” life.
Mother Patterson loved Greater Emmanuel Church and the people. She enjoyed praising and worshipping the Lord. She looked forward to receiving the rich word of God each Sunday morning. Her desire was to see the people of God grow in the Lord. ‘No matter what come or go; stay in the Church.” Mother Patterson wanted to see the new building, and God allowed her to do just that. Her last time in the building, she walked around and touched everything. Mother Patterson loved the Lord. She will be missed. Take your rest Mother.
Mother Lillie Patterson was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Patterson, her daughter, Willie Mae Banks, her son-in-law, Jimmy Carroll and grandson, Kelly James and special niece: Linda Robinson. Her Sisters: Eloise Bryant, Mary Taylor, Rosa Mae Laney, MaybellWhite. Her Brothers: Daniel “Boyle” Banks, Willie Banks, and Haywood Banks.
She leaves to cherish her memories her Children: ViLilley Carroll, James Banks, Jimmy Banks (Deborah), RickyRodgers (Cathy), and Jason Rodgers (Shakira). Sisters: Mattie Williams (Matthew), Odell Mumford, Carol Cole (Vernon), Anna Byrd(Ben), and Cathy Conyers. Aunt: Ida Caulde, Highpoint, NC. Special Nephews: HenryBanks (Doretha), and Chester Banks (Shirley). Sixteen grandchildren, Eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and her Greater Emmanuel Church Family. (Special Friends: Cynthia Woodard, Betty Wilson and Yvonne Cobb).
