Mrs. Leoney Taylor Orie Obituary

Leoney Elizabeth Taylor Orie, born December 18, 1932, in Newport News, Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025. Throughout her 92 years, Leoney was known for her boundless love, kindness, and vibrant energy. She had the biggest heart, loving with everything she had, and radiating compassion to all those fortunate enough to know her.

Leoney was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her warmth and generosity touched the lives of many. She believed deeply in the power of positivity, speaking uplifting words to everyone she met. A woman of loyalty, consideration, and grace, she lived by the principle of kindness, always giving her best to others. Her strength of mind and spirit made her a fighter, determined to overcome any obstacle with faith and resilience.

A devout Christian, Leoney kept a close relationship with God, grounded in prayer, meditation, and the study of her Bible. She was a cherished member of the Calvary Community Church of Hampton, Virginia, where she found comfort and strength in her faith.

Leoney was preceded in death by her husband, Elliott Orie, her sons William Orie and Bernard Orie, and her granddaughter Patricia Scott. She is survived by her children: Elliott Orie Jr. (Patricia), Brenda Jones, Diane Orie, and her extended family, including her sisters: Ivy Canady, Thressa Edwards (Arthur), Ernestine Taylor, and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her siblings: James Taylor, Sam Taylor, Naomi Francisco, and Sarah Belle Cobb.

Leoney’s legacy is one of love, joy, inspiration, and strength. A strong woman with a deep sense of honor, faith, femininity, beauty, and grace, she carried herself with dignity and honor in all things. Her smile could light up any room, and she had a gift for making everyone feel welcome in her presence. She opened her heart and home to anyone in need of comfort, offering a warm, safe haven to all who came her way.

Leoney will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on through the countless lives she touched and the love she so freely gave.

Rest in peace, Leoney. Your love, your light, and your strength will never be forgotten.
