Mrs. Jean Martin wife of Mr. Percy Martin and faithful member of Emmanuel Chapel Church in Hampton, Virginia transitioned peacefully Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, VA. Jean Rodgers Martin was born on July 1, 1941. She was born in Norfolk, VA to the late Katie Rodgers and Julius Rodgers.
Later in life she moved to Bowers Hill and was raised by her Grandmother and Aunts. She was educated in the Portsmouth Public Schools. At the Age of 18, her late sister Edith Carter moved her to Newport News. She became a member of Tabernacle Apostolic Church of Christ and God; Pastored under Elder Moses Williams where she received the gift of the Holy Ghost. She was a soloist, missionary, counselor, and the mother of many. She was fun and enjoyable to be around. She was a dedicated child of God.
Then she met the Martin family, and fell in love with the them. She soon noticed a handsome young man name Percy Martin. They began to talk and fell in love. On June 9, 1962 they were united in Holy Matrimony. This union lasted for 58 years. Like the vows say until death we depart. To this union was born 5 sons. Jean was preceded in death by Eboni and Caleb. Jean leaves to cherish her beloved memory, her husband Percy Martin Sr., sons, Perk Jr. (Sandra), Jeffery (Priscilla), Steven (Tracy), Darryl (Shelly) Casey, daughter in law Polly Cunningham-Martin, 9 grandchildren, Keekee, Shanae, Quanisha, Kisha, Jeffery, Mandy, Alexis, Halle and Ryan, 12 great grandkids, 4 sister in laws and a host of other relatives and friends.
A viewing for Mrs. Jean Martin will be held from 3:00p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday, September 16, 2019 at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc.
No public viewing the day of the service.
Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at Emmanuel Chapel Church, 200 Hampton Roads Ave, Hampton, Virginia by Pastor Chris Morant.
Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
