Janie Victoria Jackson, 88, passed away at her home surrounded by her loved ones on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 in Hampton, Virginia. Janie, who was a beautiful, extremely loving, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend was born on February 15, 1935 to Junious and Victoria Warren (both deceased) and raised in Cartersville, Virginia.
After graduation she worked for the former Governor of Virginia Douglas Wilder as a nannie and housekeeper. In the coming years, Janie worked several other jobs in Richmond, Virginia where she met and married Ronald Peele Johnson, Sr. Their union produced five children:
Ronald P. Johnson, Jr (Renee)-Murphy, NC, Roderick A. Johnson Sr.-Anderson, SC, Judith D. Craighead (Princess)-Pittsburg, PA, Rita J. Johnson (Harlan)- Hampton, VA, and youngest son (preceded in death) Salah Ali-Todd Johnson (Donna).
In 1970, Janie and her children moved to Neptune, NJ where she worked at both Jersey Shore Medical Center and Monmouth Medical Center.
Janie remarried on August 18, 1979 in Long Branch, NJ, to her husband Deacon Roland Jackson (preceded in death), who served 20 plus years in the United States Army.
Janie became a full-time homemaker, mother, and wife. She created a home filled with love, joy, and full praises to the Lord her Savior.
Janie served as deaconess and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Neptune, NJ. She later joined 2nd Baptist Church of Long Branch, NJ. Throughout the years, Janie assisted the church family in spiritual guidance which included works of mercy, spiritual care, and teaching of the word.
She was known for always showing her love for people. She showered her loved ones with love, support, prayers, and praise.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Junious and Victoria Warren, siblings Aaron, Webster, Charles, Arthur, Henry and sister Helen and grandson Tauheed.
Janie is survived by her four children, grandchildren Ronald Jr. (Cherice), Alicia (Keith), Tihesa, Frances, Steven (Lea), Nikki (Lawrence), Kamesha, Astin (Mckinley Jr.), Aleia, and Roderick Jr. Also surviving Janie are siblings Raymond and Phyllis, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
The family will of Mrs. Janie W. Jackson has entrusted her final care to the staff of C. C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc.
