Mrs. Jacqueline Faye (Batten) Ridley, affectionately known as "Jack" was born on June 27, 1951 to the late Horace and Lila Batten. She was educated in the Smithfield School System and graduated from Westside High School in 1969.
She continued her education at Thomas Nelson Community College, where she attained her R.N. certification in 1975. As a registered nurse, Jack worked over thirty years with the VA health care system, primarily in the Emergency Department in the states of VA, GA, and NC.
Following her retirement in 2009, Jack selflessly transitioned from her role as a nurse at Hampton VA Medical Center to
a full time caregiver for both her parents. She was an active member of New Bethany Christian Church, where she served as the Superintendent of Sunday School and the President of the usher board for over 20 years.
She was also a member of the Helping Hands Ministry and the Beautification Ministry. Jack tirelessly devoted her time and energy to worthy causes to include: consistently donating blood every 56 days, visiting loved ones in nursing homes, and helping out wherever she was needed in the church and community. Anyone who knew Jack saw her unwavering love for her grandkids, love of dance, and love of travel.
She had the superpower of never meeting a stranger and her warm smile and laugh were contagious. In addition to her parents, Jack was preceded in death by her nephew, Kevin Batten.
She leaves to cherish her love and memory, her spouse of 41 years, Jimmie Ridley, sons: Corey(Lily) Butler and Jamaal (Tamika) Batten, grandchildren: Jaida, Tristan, Elijah and Isaiah, brothers: Raymond (Sharon) Batten and Ronnie Batten, aunt: Ada Alston and uncles Lee Kee and Calvin Batten, nieces: Tori and Dominique and a host of cousins and friends.
"In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to New Bethany Christian Church in her name."
It is the desire of the Ridley, Batten & Butler families that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
The family of Mrs. Jacqueline Ridley has entrusted her final care to C. C. Carter Funeral Home.
